Sigrid’s Perfect Day in Brooklyn

Favorite way to start the day?

I wake up in Astoria, Queens, since I live here (yeah, Heatwise is worth that kind of commute!) I am not really a morning person, so my mornings are usually kind of slow and always involve a cup or two of coffee. I tend to make some sort of list for the day, which makes me feel grounded and purposeful. And the list can, and often does, include self-care practices - take a class, get a massage, sit in the sun and turn off your phone…

Go to breakfast?

I’m not a big eater in the morning, I am fine with one or two cups of coffee till mid-morning. When I am home, I have a few favorite egg dishes that I make: current #1 scrambled eggs with spring onions and feta. If you are ever in Astoria, and love European-style pastries, check out Sweet Scene Astoria (a stumble away from my house) @sweetsceneastoria.

Favorite morning activity?

I often bike from Queens to Brooklyn along the East River waterfront and have discovered many favorite places along the way - one of my favorite finds is Vinegar Hill - a tiny neighborhood where early New York City / Breukelen History is palpable! What’s for lunch?

Totally depends on my schedule, pre-pandemic I was often out of the house early and came home late in the evening, trying to bring homemade food along as much as I can, but, sometimes it just does not work out…we are very lucky in New York with so many good, nourishing and affordable food options around…

Any afternoon plans?

I am definitely the most active in the afternoon and evening. I love taking an evening class (at Heatwise, of course) - and I also love to kickbox (balance for the win!) or ride my bike all over the boroughs.

Perfect evening?

Just like I am not a morning person, I am definitely a night owl…tacos in the Rockaways! Yes, sign me up! One of the best (and very affordable) ways to get a real New York moment is to hop on a ferry to the Rockaways - and I get to ride it all the way back up north to Astoria, the city in all it’s illuminated glory as a backdrop! Other places in Brooklyn that I love to meet friends: Gran Electrica, Leyenda & Brooklyn Crab.

Any late night fun?

Weather permitting, a drink on my fire-escape, hot tea on a cold night; a refreshing gin & tonic on a hot summer night - everything is fair game! Also, an episode or two of Schitt’s Creek ;)
